Course Overview

This fantastic course is designed for those wishing to become an internationally qualified MUA – all within one year!

This part-time course is exclusively tailored to equip students with a professional competence in the area of make-up application and advanced make-up techniques including special effects. The addition of the special effects module provides you with the ability to work in specialised areas of theatre, TV and film. Our students will be granted the opportunity to learn from leading industry professionals while gaining a more proactive approach to learning and perfecting their skills in a creative, encouraging environment.

Module 3: TV, Film & Special Effects Make up

Special Effects to include:

  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree burns, cuts, scratches, bruises, black eyes, broken noses, cauliflower ears, sunburned forehead and lips, raised scars, warts, pimples, stipple beard, tooth gold and silver blocking, discoloured and rotten teeth, tattoos, bullet holes, compound fractures, blood tubing and rigging effects, and tearing effect.

Module 5: Professional Conduct & Business Awareness

  • Law and the relevant acts eg: the Health & Safety at Work Act, manual handling regulations, risk assessment, personal protection and the provision and use of work The advantages and disadvantages of each type of business
  • How to set up a business, a treatment room or a clinic
  • The necessary information when employing staff eg: employment contract, part time or full time staff, renting treatment rooms
  • The role of the staff in your business
  • Stock control
  • Marketing, advertising and business promotion eg: taking part in talks and demonstrations
  • Treatment costing
  • Professionalism and the professional conduct of therapists to clients and other therapists
